Faculty Exhibition Review
Part Way
by Barbara L. Frey
This porcelain sculpture has a cool contrast between the smoothed, melty chrome colored underbelly and the white bubbly top. This caused my eyes to be immediately drawn to it as this odd bubbly look reminded me of a sort of sea coral or infection. I loved the structure as well as the abstract nature of this piece.
North Dallas Alley
by Michael Odom
This oil painting captures the alley's lighting, which caused me to follow that distinct light on what appears to be the side of a building. It gave it a sort of serene feeling for me, and interested me because I love that the artist caught the intricacies of the plant life through the alley. I enjoy all the little details and the landscape of this piece.
Reclining Woman
by Marilyn Thompson
This oil painting is interesting because the artist captured different textures in the piece. I love how the dog almost blends into the blanket but is still prominent in the painting. Even though the white blanket brings the focus on the person, the painting is still balanced by the wall paper pattern and blue blanket underneath the person.
Red Damask
by Lee Whitmarsh
by Lee Whitmarsh
I love the intricacy of this piece as well as the color scheme. The small designs that flow all along the fabric are beautiful, and it is amazing how the pattern stays so consistent. The bright orange and pinks create a fun, strong contrast between the piece and the stark white gallery wall.
Chasing Bernini Across Rome
by Gerard Huber
by Gerard Huber
My goal is to be able to become an expert in realism paintings and drawings, so this acrylic painting really resonated with me. I was awed by how the artist could capture the marble texture, especially in the background. It absolutely blew my mind that this painting looked so realistic and had so much detail. I also enjoy the contrast of the shadows and highlights on the statues as it makes the statues look epic.
Tales of the West
by Casey McGarr
I really enjoyed making prints in high school, so this print brings back a lot of fond memories for me. I love the western theme and the scratchy feel of the print. The cool textures the artist used created a very dynamic, accurately old looking black and white piece.
